MAIA AND PAAVALI (REALISTIC MOTHER AND CUB - 39CM)
At first glance Maia (this name means mother) at 15.5in (39cm) may not look particularly different from our other bears of around the same size but believe us, technically these NEW designs were quite a challenge! The pattern for Maia was developed from scratch – but naturally there was all the experience from our other designs so she has the characteristic Bear Bits look. The majority of the work has been on improving the proportions between the different bits – the size of the head in relationship to the body; the size of the paws when compared to the limbs and the head. So much so that, when Jean had embroidered the head and put on the ears, offering the result up to the body with the limbs jointed to it, she feared that she might have made a mistake, it looked too small? Not so – in terms of realism, Maia is definitely the best proportioned bear we have made to date! Paavali (the name means small) stands 5.5in tall (14cm) and there is a lot of detail in his small body! Paavali is made from 10mm brown alpaca with contrasting cashmere used for the nose, inner ears and paws; the paws have been printed with a pad design and there is a small magnet in each front paw so that they are either attracted to each other or his mother’s paws. He has 5 joints, his head and limbs are filled with polyester and his body is loosely filled with polypellets and his cub like body is completed with a little tail.
