SASHA (CUDDLY BEIGE BEAR CUB LENGTH 8.5” (21.5CM) – SHORTER WHEN CURLED UP!)
The idea for these little bears has been in my head for some time but not only did it need the right fabric but, more importantly quite a lot of design, development and “play” time to get to the 3D stage! I found the fabric – a wonderfully soft alpaca from Japan – while at Teddy Bear Total in Germany at the end of April 07. The time was found this summer, whilst recovering from open-heart surgery, and the first two prototypes were ready for Teddies ’07 at Kensington (where I was also able to buy limited amounts of more fabric. The design is for a very young cub, quite floppy (like recently born baby so the joints are loose) and I wanted people to feel very protective when holding one of them. Additionally there are small magnets in the chin and the end of each limb so paws will stick together and also to the chin. This means that they can adopt a variety of incredibly endearing poses. The contrast fabric – used for inner ears, the nose and pads is cashmere. Sasha – beige alpaca with mid brown cashmere
